Introduction

In this first test of memory cards we're looking at four high speed 2GB SD cards from Corsair, OCZ, PQI and TwinMOS.
To measure the performance we're using the low-level benchmark from Flash Memory Toolkit.
To get an idea of the reliablity we're also using the Error Scan function from this program. With this function we will perform five write and verify tests.

Corsair 2GB 133X

   Website manufacturer: http://www.corsair.com
   Model: CMFSD133-2GB
   Capacity: 2 GB (1909 MB)
   Speed rating: 133X

Performance
Average read speed: 18.8 MB/s (128X)
Average write speed: 12.1 MB/s (82X)

Reliability
We experienced major issues with this card. After only a few weeks of light use the card cracked. We were able to put it back together and luckily it seemed to work again.
Until a few days later when we constantly got a write error when trying to copy files on it. This was caused by the small write protection switch which got loose. A bit of tape solved this problem.
But in the weeks after that the card literally fell apart. Almost everytime we inserted the card in a camera or card reader there was a new crack or small pieces fell off. By the time we ran the surface scans the card was almost completely destroyed. Only a few pieces of tape was holding it together.
Surprisingly though, it still worked!

This is how the card looked after a few weeks.
Conclusion
This card should be avoided. It's fast but very unreliable. You really don't want to use a card which falls apart and may leave small pieces of plastic in your camera.

   Model: OCZSD150-2GB
   Capacity: 2 GB (1909 MB)
   Speed rating: 150X

Performance
Average read speed: 18.8 MB/s (128X)
Average write speed: 15.4 MB/s (104X)

Reliability
No problems were found after using the card for a few weeks.

Conclusion
The fast read and write speeds makes the OCZ 150X the winner of this test.

PQI 2GB 150X

   Website manufacturer: http://www.pqimemory.com
   Model: PQI Hi-Speed 150X 2GB
   Capacity: 2 GB (1909 MB)
   Speed rating: 150X

Performance
Average read speed: 18.9 MB/s (128X)
Average write speed: 11.9 MB/s (80X)

Reliability
No problems were found after using the card for a few weeks.

Conclusion
The read speed of the PQI 150X was marginally faster than the other cards but the write speed was the lowest of the four cards we tested.

 69%

TwinMOS 2GB 150X

   Website manufacturer: http://www.twinmos.com
   Model: Ultra-X SD 150X
   Capacity: 2 GB (1921 MB)
   Speed rating: 150X

Performance
Average read speed: 18.3 MB/s (124X)
Average write speed: 15.4 MB/s (105X)

Reliability
No problems were found after using the card for a few weeks.

Conclusion
The TwinMOS Ultra-X 150X had the highest write speed of the four cards we tested. The read speed was a bit lower than the OCZ and PQI but overall it finishes second, very closely after the winner.
The TwinMOS also had the highest capacity. It can hold 12 MB more than the other cards.

 76%

Conclusion

The read speed was about the same with all four cards but the write speed was much lower with the PQI and Corsair card.
The quality of the Corsair card was very bad so we don't recommend this card at all.

The OCZ and TwinMOS are highly recommended.
